What I’m about to tell you is some sweet news to me. You see, I’m a big fan of the HELLRAISER franchise. From the tapped original to the direct to DVD sequels. I even liked the dredded HELLRAISER III, and especially liked HELLRAISER: HELLSEEKER and HELLRAISER: HELLWORLD. Don’t ask me why, I just did. My reasoning would probably be the man himself, Pinhead. The dude is just badass. You fix this puzzle box right? Yay! It’s like solving the damn Rubix Cube, so your all happy then BAM this dude with pins in his head shows up shooting chains at you and tells you he’s there to torture you… that’s some messed up sh*t right there.
Now enough of my rant, a while back it was announced that Clive Barker’s original film was getting remade. It was met with a mixed reaction from the genre fans. I dug it from day one. The main reason being: sure, the original was pretty sweet… but it lacked Pinhead. No where near enough Pinhead for me. Today, some even better news is rolling in from Bloody-Disgusting. Dimension Films are in negotiations with a couple genre dudes to write the script!
Now to tell you the truth, I don’t know who these guys are (yet), but I plan on finding out, because the hype on their french film INSIDE (which the Weinsteins have already picked up) is pretty nuts. In case you don’t know who I’m talking about yet, the two guys are Alexandre Bustillo and Julien Maury. Now I’m hearing INSIDE is a pretty messed up flick, like tapped in the head messed up! So they’ll fit right in with Clive Barker’s HELLRAISER! Hell, maybe they can even add to it! Now the original was written and directed by Clive Barker and starred Andrew Robinson, Clare Higgins, Ashley Laurence (below), Sean Chapman, Oliver Smith, and the man himself Doug Bradley (above). In case you don’t know (where the hell have you been?) the original was about a tortured soul who escapes Hell and returns to his significant other to find her cheating on him, not to mention the dudes being chased by some f*cked up demons called Cenobites.
I’ll tell you one thing, regardless of how badass this film may seem in the pre-production in the coming weeks, if they don’t lock Doug Bradley they’ve got nothing. We’ll keep you updated on any HELLRAISER news we hear.
