We've known that a third installment in the INSIDIOUS franchise was on its way for quite some time now as it was announced back in September. Today word has come in that FilmDistrict and Sony Pictures have slated the Leigh Whannell-penned INSIDIOUS: CHAPTER 3 for an April 3rd, 2015 release. As you know, Whannell, who co-created SAW with James Wan, wrote both INSIDIOUS films, and can also be seen in the films as the character Specs (below left), one half of the ghost hunting tandem known as "Specs & Tucker."
There's still no word on whether or not we'll be seeing James Wan back for this one, but I wouldn't count on it. For the most part I enjoyed both films and I think there's plenty of potential to keep this franchise going (especially with how they left things off) so hopefully Whannell can find a way to keep the audience on edge as they keep dishing these flicks out. Once we get more details on this one we'll be sure to let you fine folks know!
Jason Blum and his Blumhouse Productions, which produced both INSIDIOUS and INSIDIOUS: CHAPTER 2, is producing the next installment along with Oren Peli. Steven Schneider, Brian Kavanaugh Jones, Peter Schlessel, Lia Buman and Xavier Marchand are executive producing.
