Interview: Cheaper by the Dozen director Gail Lerner

Gail Lerner has made an impressive career as a writer and director, as well as a producer. She’s been involved with everything from Will and Grace to Grace and Frankie, as well as the hit series Black-ish. And now, she’s taken on directorial duties for the latest take on the classic comedy Cheaper by the Dozen. The latest version brings Zach Braff and Gabrielle Union together with a massive mixed family. This is the kind of feel good flick that may give some of you a reason to come together for a few laughs. And it’s available to watch now on Disney+.

We recently had the great pleasure of speaking with Gail about the new film. Ms. Lerner discussed taking on a story that Steve Martin and Bonnie Hunt made famous, as well as Clifton Webb and Myrna Loy before them. The filmmaker opened up about the challenge of casting child actors virtually, working with both Ms. Union and Mr. Braff, and even how she brought a sense of fun to the production. Gail has a way with comedy, and she is an utter delight to chat with. Cheaper by the Dozen is currently available on Disney+. Watch it with the entire family, no matter how many of you there are.
