Interview: Hannah Marks Talks Don’t Make Me Go

Don’t Make Me Go is a charming new feature film. It stars the winning combination of John Cho and Mia Isaac, who are terrific together. And it also takes on the serious subject of facing your own mortality. As deep and dark as that may sound, there is a sweetness to all of it. The film tells the story of a single father who discovers he has a fatal brain tumor. This inspires him to take a road trip with his daughter to find the mother that abandoned them before. Directed by Hannah Marks – who also appears in the film – there is a terrific balance of laughs and heart to this sweet story of family and love.

We recently had the pleasure of speaking with both John Cho and Mia Isaac about working together on this project. As well, we spoke with the filmmaker herself, Hannah Marks. As an actress, Marks has appeared in the horror anthology Southbound, as well as the recent, and buzzworthy, Dinner in America. Yet she is quite skilled behind the camera – Marks is a writer, producer, director, and actress, so she’s got a few things going for her. She opened up about how she connected with this story, as well as working with her two leads. It’s a delicate balance of not giving in to blatant sentimentality while tackling a subject matter like this. Yet she handles the material especially well. Don’t Make Me Go is worth seeking out, and it premieres this Friday on Prime.
