The three most difficult interviews to do for me are ones where the talent is a) insanely funny, b) a beautiful woman or c) a handsome man. (Un)lucky enough for me, I hit that trifecta when I sat down to interview Kristen Wiig and Ryan Phillippe for MACGRUBER.
Luckily, there was nothing difficult about this interview. I had already spent some time with both Kristen and Ryan backstage at the MACGRUBER “WWE Raw” event so before the cameras were rolling we were catching up and having a few laughs.
While Will Forte is obviously the star of this movie, there’s no way to understate the importance of both Wiig and Phillippe to the success of this movie. As director Jorma Taccone would later tell me, “They’re the rocks” and the reason why the movie works.
