Jacob Elordi stars in an Alfonso Cuarón-directed short film for Chanel and people are convinced it’s a Bond audition video

Last Updated on June 1, 2026

Not a day goes by while writing the news that someone doesn’t comment on who will play the next James Bond. Especially with the recent launch of IO Interactive’s 007: First Light, selling 1.5 million copies in its first 24 hours, fans of the time-honored superspy are excited for any update that comes our way. Yesterday, Alfonso Cuarón’s short film “The Chase,” for Chanel, starring Saltburn and Wuthering Heights actor Jacob Elordi, debuted, and some people in the comments believe it’s secretly a James Bond audition video.

It’s worth noting that Cuarón was rumored to be the top choice to direct the latest Bond movie before the job ended up going to Denis Villeneuve.

The Qualley Factor

In “The Chase,” Elordi, dressed in a sharp black suit, retrieves a bottle of Bleu de Chanel from a hidden safe before coming face-to-face with a mysterious thief, played by model Libby Taverner. She’s giving off Margaret Qualley vibes in a Catwoman-inspired costume while making light work of stealing the cologne. The two thieves give chase, with Taverner moving as Qualley does in the “Kenzo World” music video, which is not entirely dissimilar to Fatboy Slim’s “Weapon of Choice” video featuring Christopher Walken.

Is Jacob Elordi the next James Bond?

Elordi’s is one of many names rumored to be the next Bond, though Amazon is keeping any news close to the vest at this time. While Elordi is dreamy and fits Amazon’s desire to cast a younger James Bond with the next chapter of the long-running film franchise, some think the Euphoria actor is a little “too cold” to play the iconic character. However, there’s also a contingent of Elordi superfans who would love to see him sipping a martini (shaken, not stirred) while foiling the plans of a nuclear terrorist, or whatever the plot ends up being.

Who else is in the running for Bond?

Recent betting markets point toward Elordi or Callum Turner (Masters of the Air) being the top choices to play Bond. At the same time, outlets have also mentioned names like Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Henry Cavill, Regé-Jean Page, Theo James, Paul Mescal, and Harris Dickinson as potential picks.

Who do you think should play the next James Bond? I’m always down for an unknown actor taking the reins, but Amazon might want some name recognition to lead the next several years of 007 films. Let us know who you’d like to see as Bond in the comments below.
