Jenna Ortega joins Cox, Arquette, and Barrera in the new Scream film

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

There's a fifth SCREAM film in the works, and even though it's coming our way from different companies – Spyglass Media Group and Paramount Pictures instead of Dimension – and a new creative team – franchise newcomers James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick wrote the screenplay, Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett of the filmmaking group Radio Silence are taking the helm – the story is still connected to the four SCREAM movies we've seen before. That's evident from the fact that Courteney Cox and David Arquette are signed to reprise the roles of Gale Weathers and Dewey Riley in the film, and Neve Campbell has been in talks about coming back as Sidney Prescott.

Of course, a slasher also needs some new blood in the cast, and that's where Melissa Barrera came in when she signed on to play "a key role" earlier this week. Now another SCREAM newbie has been confirmed: the latest addition to the cast is Jenna Ortega, who was recently seen in the second season of the Netflix series You and will soon be seen in the horror-comedy sequel THE BABYSITTER: KILLER QUEEN.

The new SCREAM will be filming in Wilmington, North Carolina later this year, aiming for a 2021 release.

Project X Entertainment's Vanderbilt, Paul Neinstein, and William Sherak are producing the film, with Radio Silence's Chad Villella serving as executive producer alongside Kevin Williamson.

No plot details have been revealed, but we'll keep you updated as more information is made available.
