J.J. Abrams talks about upping the ante in this Star Trek Into Darkness featurette and a look at the prequel video game

STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS may be the best studio job at keeping a plot secret/misdirected since the advent of the Internet. We still have no real idea what the movie is about and a billion questions. J.J. Abrams better bring this same level of mystery to STAR WARS. But, as we inch closer and closer to the release date for INTO DARKNESS, expect more and more to be revealed. Here we have a new featurette that gives us little new information but a lot of perspective on how the sequel will top the original.

My only qualm is that they keep pushing the 3D of the movie. Uh, if I am wrong (which I am not), STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS was post-converted and J.J. Abrams himself said “The key for me is I got to make my 2D movie that I wanted to make, just the way I wanted to; and it gets to be augmented in 3D but that doesn’t detract from the 2D.” Now he just sounds like a shill for the studio. And then there is Zoe Saldana, who starred in the quintessential 3D movie AVATAR saying this is what 3D was made for. F*cking post-conversion.

We also get a look at the upcoming STAR TREK video game. The co-op game is unique for movie video games in that it actually serves as a story set prior to STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS instead of being a playable version of the film. I think that will definitely keep the replay value higher, especially if it gives gamers and Trekkies a chance to explore for possible easter eggs in the movie itself.

STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS starring Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Benedict Cumberbatch, Bruce Greenwood, Zoe Saldana, John Cho, Simon Pegg, Peter Weller, Alice Eve, and Karl Urban opens everywhere on May 17, 2013.
