UPDATE: John C. Reilly NOT confirmed as Ronan the Accuser in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy

UPDATE: Well, it looks like Deadline has messed up their comic book characters. Apparently, Reilly will NOT be playing Ronan the Accusser, but the previously rumored Rhomann Dey, leader of the Nova Corps. Does that mean that Ronan the Accuser isn't in the film? Not at all. He simply hasn't been named or linked to an actor…yet.

Last month our inside source revealed that Ronan The Accuser would be in GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY as the lead villain and today Deadline is confirming not only that he is in the film, but that actor John C. Reilly will be portraying the Kree ruler. Although not confirmed as the "lead" villain (although it's likely), it appears that Ronan The Accuser could potentially have a large role in the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as he is one of the big players in the overall scheme of the "galactic" world of the comics, aligning (or fighting) alongside previously named villains Thanos and The Collector.

So far, actors Benicio Del Toro and Lee Pace have been cast in roles for the film, but the details of those roles has been kept close to the chest. Some have speculated that Del Toro would be Thanos or Rocket Raccoon, while Pace has been rumored to be playing one of the undisclosed villains. One thing is for sure, GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY is shaping up a hell of a cast for an untested property. I'm optimistic and excited to see what they do, especially with James Gunn at the helm, who I think will bring the right amount of quirk and action to make this an exciting entry in the Marvel films stable.

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY, directed by James Gunn and starring Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Beautista, Michael Rooker, Lee Pace, and Ophelia Lovibond gets galactic on August 1, 2014.
