THE RAVEN, originally set to release against JOHN CARTER on the 9th of March, has been delayed and now has the still-dubious release date of April 27th. Which is probably just as well, since we’ve seen very little in the way of marketing for the movie and the new release date will pit THE RAVEN against THE FIVE-YEAR ENGAGEMENT and Jason Statham’s SAFE. Yet, just as when the first release date was announced, I’m still wondering why a movie with some serious horror undertones is still being released in the spring. I could understand if it was pushed back to take advantage of the Halloween season, but nope, it was instead pushed closer to Summer Blockbuster season. So color me somewhat concerned about this one, try as I might not to be.
THE RAVEN stars John Cusack as Edgar Allen Poe in his quest to aid police in investigating a series of murders that mirror the events of his stories. James McTeigue (V FOR VENDETTA) directs, with Brendan Gleeson, Luke Evans, and Alice Eve co-starring.
As far as release-date-shuffling goes, HOUSE AT THE END OF THE STREET starring Jenniefer Lawrence, Max Thieriot, and Elizabeth Shue has also been pushed back, this time from April 20th to September 21st. This is a movie we’ve thus far heard almost nothing about, so I would expect that that accounts for the move. Or not. Either way we won’t know for a while now.
