Jordan Peele’s Nazi drama gets a direct-to-series order from Amazon

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Jordan Peele has quickly become one of the hottest rising stars in Hollywood, ever since his directorial debut GET OUT shattered box office expectations in January of 2017. Now, after moving into pre-production for US, a social horror thriller starring BLACK PANTHER's Lupita Nyong'o (which Peele will also write and direct), Amazon has confirmed that they've given a direct-to-series order for THE HUNT, a Peele-produced Nazi drama.

The the 10-episode hourlong series will tell the story of a group of Nazi hunters living in New York City in 1977. The show was created by David Weil of MOONFALL fame, and will be produced by Peele's Monkeypaw Productions and Sonar Entertainment. In addition to creating the show, Weil will also write the drama as well as executive produce alongside Peele and Win Rosenfield (DARK NET). Tom Lesinski and Jenna Santoianni will also serve as executive producers via Sonar.

"When David Weil first shared The Hunt with me, I immediately knew that we had to be involved," said Peele. "It's cathartic. It's noir. It’s frighteningly relevant. It’s exactly what I want to see on television. I am thrilled to be working with Amazon in bringing this incredible vision to the world."

THE HUNT follows a group known as the Hunters that discovers that hundreds of high-ranking Nazi officials are living among them and conspiring to create the Fourth Reich in the United States. They set out on a bloody quest to bring the Nazis to justice and thwart their new genocidal plans.

"Our biggest priority is attracting exceptional writing and producing talent to bring addictive, groundbreaking projects to Prime Video," said new Amazon Studio head, Jennifer Salke . "The Hunt is edge-of-your seat entertainment that is not only culturally relevant but deliciously original. David Weil, Jordan Peele, and the entire Monkeypaw and Sonar Entertainment teams represent the dream team! We can't wait to get started!"

When THE HUNT arrives on Amazon, it will join a host of new content for the streamer, of which includes Gillian Flynn's Utopia and Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan's The Peripheral adaptation. Meanwhile, Amazon is still looking for their own personal GAME OF THRONES-like drama to help boost the popularity and demand of their streaming network. Will THE HUNT be that project?
