Within the past several months we’ve heard various updates regarding this upcoming ROBOCOP reboot. Now unfortunately most of those updates have been about names that ‘might’ be interested in playing the robotic man of the law… but nothing solid has really crossed the wires just yet.
Today I still don’t have any solid news for you guys but what we do have is Jose Padilha, who is directing this ROBOCOP reboot, talking a bit about the project. More specifically the director chatted with Dutch film site Film1 recently about how his film is going to differ from Paul Verhoeven’s epic original. Here’s what the director said:
“I love the sharpness and political tone of RoboCop, and I think that such a film is now urgently needed. But I will not repeat what Verhoeven has done so clearly and strongly. Instead I try to make a film that will address topics that Verhoeven untreated. If you are a man changes into a robot, how do you do that? What is the difference between humans and robots developed? What is free will? What does it mean to lose your free will? Those are the issues that I think.”
Alright then… Sounds like this thing is going to suck pretty hard. At least that’s my gut reaction. What says you guys? You digging what Padilha is selling? Spit some bullets below and let us know as we await more news on this unnecessary reboot.
