Justin M. Seaman plots a sequel to his ’80s retro slasher The Barn

The Barn Justin M. Seaman

There are a lot of filmmakers trying to replicate the '80s style these days, and among those who have done the best job of that is director Justin M. Seaman, whose 1989-set slasher THE BARN was released a couple years ago (you can pick up a copy of the special edition release on Amazon). Now Seaman is working on a sequel to THE BARN, one that will bring his horrific creations The Boogeyman, Hallowed Jack, and the Candycorn Scarecrow forward into the '90s.

The first movie had the following synopsis:

Its Halloween 1989, best friends Sam and Josh are trying to enjoy what’s left of their final Devil’s Night before graduating high school. But trouble arises when the two pals and a group of friends take a detour on their way to a rock concert, finding an old abandoned barn and awakening the evil inside. Now it’s up to Sam and Josh to find a way to protect their friends and defeat the creatures that lurk within “The Barn”.

Seaman hasn't released a synopsis for THE BARN PART II yet, but here is some of the information he has provided about it:

The surviving cast is returning, including Linnea Quigley and Ari Lehman.

It's a continuation of the first film and takes place in the early 1990s.

It will of course be a Halloween film.

And perhaps it contains zombies to some degree… perhaps.

There are many questions that went unanswered in PART 1: What happens to Sam and Josh and Michelle? Does Ms. Barnhart stay true to her word to ban Halloween in Helen’s Valley? And what was up with The Boogeyman's helmet having the name DANIELS written on it (ya know, our hero Sam’s last name)?

Well to be honest the original film was written to setup the story arc in the event of a sequel and keep an authentic flow. I want this next film to have the same fun schlocky charm as the first, but be much darker, creepier and gorier… more monsters, more kills, more Halloween!

To make THE BARN PART II happen, Seaman is running a crowdfunding campaign through which you can pre-order copies of the film. For example, a $35 perk will get you a signed Blu-ray, DVD, and CD soundtrack box set that comes with a poster, and you'll also get a special thanks in the end credits of the movie. That's a hell of a deal.

As of this writing, the campaign is inching close to its $37,500 "all or nothing" goal. It's about $3000 shy of that number with 14 hours left to go, so if you're in a giving mood today and want to secure a copy of THE BARN PART II, head over to the campaign page.

I enjoyed THE BARN a lot and gave it an 8/10 review, so I really want to see this sequel get made.
