Kassovitz on Babylon

JoBloJoBlo

The Vin Diesel sci-fi/action flick BABYLON A.D. opens this weekend, and while I’m not sure what critics and moviegoers will think of it, one person has weighed in with a negative opinion: the director.

Matieu Kassovitz (LA HAINE, GOTHIKA) clearly didn’t have a very good time making the film. As he candidly tells AMC: “I never had a chance to do one scene the way it was written or the way I wanted it to be. The script wasn’t respected. Bad producers, bad partners, it was a terrible experience.”

Not a lot of gray area there, but what Kassovitz dislikes about the cut could be what appeals to the American masses: “It’s pure violence and stupidity,” and “parts of the movie are like a bad episode of 24“. And since 24 has already become like a bad episode of 24 and it’s still a hit series, perhaps Kassovitz’s spurned movie might do pretty well at the box office.

Kassovitz also further discusses the finished film, what originally attracted him to the material, and his pure disdain for Fox (the studio that caused him endless difficulty), all of which you can read RIGHT HERE.
