Kelly is in the Darko

JoBloJoBlo

Richard Kelly only has a couple of finished films under his belt, the brain-slapping Mobius strip DONNIE DARKO and the as-yet-unleashed SOUTHLAND TALES (plus the DOMINO screenplay), but he’s already going into business for himself.

Kelly has founded Darko Entertainment, which will focus on “modestly budgeted, director-driven films”. They’re starting off with something called DIRTY GIRL (I like it already) from short film director Abe Sylvia.

Also on the Darko do-list is the dark thriller THE BOX, which stars Cameron Diaz and an unrevealed male lead (Seann William Scott, maybe?). The flick, to be be directed by Kelly himself, is based on a story titled “Button Button” by “I Am Legend” writer Richard Matheson and involves a mysterious box that dispenses both misery and fortune with a button press. Like most game shows.

SOUTHLAND TALES, in its purportedly finished state, will finally be seen in November.
