Kiefer Sutherland takes aim at your monitor for hitman web series The Confession, and talks 24 movie

After eight really long days saving the world as 24’s one-man antiterrorism unit Jack Bauer, actor Kiefer Sutherland is taking it down a few notches, all the way to your nearest computer.

Sutherland created and is starring in THE CONFESSION, a new web series that according to the Facebook page tells “a story of unique redemption and an exploration of good and evil featuring a hit man (Sutherland), and a priest (John Hurt). The story begins on Christmas Eve, when the hit-man enters a church to confess his sins to the priest. Through a series of gripping flashbacks, the Confessor’s journey is revealed – laying out what has brought him to this moment and leading the audience to the dramatic ending where the man’s chances at ultimate redemption hang in the balance. While at first the Confessor seems to be an evil, cold-blooded killing machine and the Priest the ultimate arbiter of good, as the series develops it becomes clear that both characters are much more complicated than either could have suspected.”

The series, each segment clocking at five to seven minutes, will run on Hulu beginning in March. Sutherland tells Thompson on Hollywood that it “has taken everything I have learned over the last 25 years, from storytelling to acting, and challenged it in a way like no other experience that I’ve had. From five to seven minute episodes, to creating a character that I believe is edgy enough to stand out and make an impression in the vast Internet. In short, I’m having a blast.”

That will have to satiate your violent Kiefer craving until a 24 movie can happen, and the star remains optimistic that you’ll still see his superagent shooting holes through global terrorists someday. Despite the recent feature script by Billy Ray (BREACH) getting rejected by Fox, Sutherland tells EW he’s still working with director/producer Tony Scott on the project and says “Billy did a fantastic job and there are aspects of that story [that will remain].”
