Earlier this year, word spread around that Brie Larson (Captain Marvel) had signed on to star in a creature feature called Skeletons, which JT Moller (Strange Darling) would be directing from a screenplay by Spontaneous and No One Will Save You writer Brian Duffield while JJ Abrams produces through his company Bad Robot. Now, Deadline reports that genre regular Kyle Gallner has joined Larson in the cast!

What is Skeletons about?

Duffield’s script is based on a short story by Philip Fracassi. The project was previously going by the title Fail-Safe. The story is told from the perspective of a young boy who slowly begins to discover that his beloved parents are hiding a disturbing secret about his mother’s true nature.

Larson is playing the mother with the secret true nature. Details on the character Gallner will be playing haven’t been revealed, but it wouldn’t be surprising to hear that he’s playing the father.

Gallner’s previous credits include acting credits include the likes of Red, The Haunting in Connecticut, Jennifer’s Body, A Nightmare on Elm Street, Red State, The Walking Dead, The Cleanse, Alien Code, Ghosts of War, SmileThe PassengerMother, May I?; Scream (2022), and Smile 2. He worked with Mollner on Strange Darling.

What has been said about Skeletons?

Skeletons is coming our way from FilmNation Entertainment’s production label Infrared, JJ Abrams’ Bad Robot Productions, and Assemble Media. Drew Simon, JJ Abrams, Jon Cohen, and Jack Heller are the producers. Assemble’s Caitlin de Lisser-Ellen and Duffield serve as executive producers with Larson and Fracassi. Sony Pictures holds the worldwide rights.

Abrams previously provided the following statement about the project: “Brian Duffield has written an absolute powerhouse of a script. It’s a horror film that is as sweet and moving as it is terrifying. To have JT Mollner in the director’s chair (his Strange Darling blew me away) is a dream come true. Finally, having the limitlessly talented Brie Larson as our star sets the film up to be that rare horror film that makes you laugh, feel, and care, before taking you on an absolutely wild ride.

While Mollner (who recently wrote the Stephen King adaptation The Long Walk) gears up for this production, he’s also collaborating with A24, Exurbia Films, Spooky Pictures, Image Nation, and Barnstorm on a Texas Chainsaw Massacre TV series.

Kyle Gallner is an excellent addition to any cast, so I’m glad to hear he’ll be in his Strange Darling director’s new film. What do you think of Gallner joining Skeletons? Let us know by leaving a comment below.
