Lair: Oded Fehr stars in supernatural horror film coming in November

1091 Pictures has acquired the North American distribution rights to the supernatural horror film Lair, which stars Oded Fehr (The Mummy Returns) and Corey Johnson (Kingsman: The Secret Service), from Storyboard Media. 1091 is planning to give the film a digital release on November 9th, after it does the festival rounds.

Lair has a set-up somewhat reminiscent of the recently released The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It. Written and directed by Adam Ethan Crow, it follows

Dr. Steven Caramore (Johnson) who specializes in debunking the supernatural. When a friend (Fehr) is accused of murder, claiming he was possessed by an unseen menace, Caramore begins to question his own beliefs. He investigates his friend’s claims, setting off a chain of events that forces Caramore and a young family into a battle for survival.

This is Crow's feature directorial debut. Fehr and Johnson are joined in the cast by Alexandra Gilbreath (EastEnders), Alana Wallace (Black Ops), veteran creature performer Paul Warren (ABCs of Death 2.5), and newcomers Lara Mount and Anya Newall.

Newall is featured in the first look image from Lair and on the film's poster, so it looks like she has a very prominent role, even though her character isn't named in the synopsis.

Crow had this to say about the distribution deal:

The pedigree of 1091's films, combined with its industry-leading management, make it the perfect home for Lair, which is being described as an elevated horror. All I know is Lair's not your normal scary movie, and I hope it will ignite healthy, spirited conversation while delighting genre fans."

It sounds like even the writer/director isn't sure about this "elevated horror" description that's being used so often these days.

Lair was produced by Shelley Atkin. Studiocanal has the Australia and New Zealand distribution rights, while Nos will be releasing the film in Portugal.
