Yesterday, Eric showed you all an international trailer for I AM LEGEND that has made it’s rounds on the net. Well right now I’m showing you the final theatrical trailer for I AM LEGEND, courtesy of IGN.
Head on over here to check it out. It seems like it gets the whole feel of the movie down perfectly, with most of the trailer giving off a list of Robert Neville’s average day. It’s weird to see New York City completely abandoned. It even gets into some great action towards the end that shows Smith going one on one with ‘the infected.’ The last shot of the trailer is great.
I’ve been looking forward to this one ever since the day it was announced. Matter of fact, hearing the announcement prompted me to hit Amazon and pick up the book the film is based off of. Now after watching I AM LEGEND progress, they really do stray from the book at a lot of points, but the bulk of it is the same. Of course the one main thing they’re changing is the fact that Will Smith’s enemies are ‘the infected’ instead of what Richard Matheson intended them to be, vampires. And in the book they had personalities and such, from this trailer they just look like animals. Let’s hope that’s not true.
I could go on about the differences between the two, and the negatives and positives, but let me get into the details. According to the official website, the synopsis for I AM LEGEND is:
Robert Neville (Will Smith) is a brilliant scientist, but even he could not contain the terrible virus that was unstoppable, incurable, and man-made. Somehow immune, Neville is now the last human survivor in what is left of New York City and maybe the world. For three years, Neville has faithfully sent out daily radio messages, desperate to find any other survivors who might be out there. But he is not alone. Mutant victims of the plague – The infected – lurk in the shadows… watching Neville’s every move… waiting for him to make a fatal mistake. Perhaps mankind’s last, best hope, Neville is driven by only on remaining mission: to find a way to reverse the effects of the virus using his own immune blood. But he knows he is outnumbered… and quickly running out of time.
I AM LEGEND is based on the book of the same title by Richard Matheson and was directed by Francis Lawrence. It was adapted by Mark Protosevich and Akiva Goldsman. It stars Will Smith (above), Alice Braga (below), and Dash Mihok. It hits theaters December 14, 2007. I highly recommend checking out the book too. And don’t forget, if your catching I AM LEGEND in IMAX, you’ll be treated to a 7 minute prologue to THE DARK KNIGHT.
