Lionsgate’s Studio L is developing a Blair Witch TV show, amongst others

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

As Lionsgate continues to dip their toes in the deep end of digital content, their newly-established Studio L banner has announced the first entries to their slate of forthcoming features and episodic series.

In the process of being prepped for a spring debut, Studio L is looking to rake in your hard-earned millennial dollars as they partner with premiere movers and shakers in the online entertainment streaming racket to present projects like THE HONOR LIST, a coming-of-age female-driven drama featuring a cast of social media spotlight darlings like Meghan Rienks (FREAKISH), Sasha Pieterse (PRETTY LITTLE LIARS), Karrueche Tran (CLAWS), and Arden Cho (TEEN WOLF). Helmed by Australian director Elissa Down (THE BLACK BALLOON), THE HONOR LIST is set to be written for screen by Marilyn Flu, and will serve as the debut release for POPSUGAR Films.

Also on deck for Studio L's triple threat is MOST LIKELY TO MURDER, a home-for-the-holidays noir-comedy starring THE MINDY PROJECT's Adam Pally. CRAZY EX-GIRLFRIEND co-creator and star Rachel Bloom, and Vincent Kartheiser of MAD MEN fame. The project, from writing-producing team  Dan Gregor and Doug Mand, is set for a May 1st premiere.

As spring slowly catches fire, turning itself into summer, Studio L will partner with the Brat media network for a full-length feature film entitled CHICKEN GIRLS: THE MOVIE, a larger-than-life presentation of the uber-popular YouTube juggernaut.

Now, because Studio L's future is looking so bright that it's got to wear shades, there are several other projects being placed on the development burner, such as another Blue Mountain State film, as well as the above-mentioned TV series based on THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT. Last but not least, the banner is also looking to create a project based on WAITING, the 2005 gross-out comedy starring DEADPOOL's Ryan Reynolds and OVERBOARD's Anna Faris. According to Studio L, they'll be partnering with key members of Buzzfeed and The Onion for that one.

Do any of these projects strike your fancy? Do you think THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT will adapt well to TV? Did WAITING scar you like it did me for ordering out? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below!
