Listen to Soundgarden’s first song in 15 years for Marvel’s The Avengers!

It’s pretty rare that a band reunites to perform on a soundtrack, so it’s a notable event when a band like Soundgarden lends their talent to the soundtrack for Marvel’s THE AVENGERS.  The band broke up in 1997 and have since reformed, preparing to release a new album this year.  And what better platform to relaunch than with one of the biggest movies of the year?

We don’t normally cover every band on a soundtrack, but Soundgarden was a highly influential band in its heyday and it’s great to see them back in the spotlight.  They fit perfectly with the rest of the line up for THE AVENGERS soundtrack, which has a really cool rock vibe going for it.

Take a look:

For me, music can make or break a film.  From scores to songs, the music becomes a part of the film in every way, so it’s important for it to match the film.  Directors like Martin Scorsese, Michael Mann, Wes Anderson, and Cameron Crowe are just a few directors who spring to mind that really pay attention to the music they place in their films and with great results.

THE AVENGERS soundtrack will be released on May 1st, 2012.  Also, look for Alan Silvestri’s score to follow after, which is sure to be kick ass.

THE AVENGERS hits theaters on May 4, 2012.
