Lucille Ball biopic Lucy and Desi nabs Cate Blanchett in title role

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

So this is cool. It seems that Amazon Studios is producing a Lucille Ball biopic – of I LOVE LUCY fame – from screenwriter Aaron Sorkin, who has sort of been on a biopic streak lately (after SOCIAL NETWORK and STEVE JOBS). And it looks like they've found their Lucy, and it's none other than Cate Blanchett, who is also known for doing biopics, especially for famous redheads (previously with Elizabeth I in ELIZABETH and Katharine Hepburn in THE AVIATOR).

Not only that, but it seems that Amazon is courting such high-profile names as Javier Bardem for the Desi Arnaz role, and other A-listers for Fred and Ethel.

Meanwhile, the film will be career-spanning, and will chronicle the fraught love/business relationship Desi and Lucy shared throughout their career (including the aforementioned I LOVE LUCY), as well as their eventual falling out and divorce. If done right, this should be one for the ages, as it's a fascinating – and tragic – Hollywood love story.

The film is in early development, so no official release date as of yet, but production seems to be on a fast-track. We'll keep you updated.
