Mads Mikkelsen is a killer pulled from retirement in brutal Polar trailer

If you're looking for something to kick your ass into consciousness on this sleepy Monday morning, Netflix and Constantin Films have just debuted a trailer that's bound to get your adrenaline pumping. That's right, indie comic book fans, the trailer for POLAR is here! Directed by Jonas Åkerlund (LORDS OF CHAOS, SPUN), POLAR stars Mads Mikkelsen (HANNIBAL, DOCTOR STRANGE) as Duncan Vizla, a master assassin who comes out of retirement to contend with a group of young hit men. Along his journey frought with betrayel, stealth kills, and bullets flying to and fro, Duncan meets Camille (Vanessa Hudgens), a young woman who complicates the killer's plans to disappear into a snow-covered horizon line.

POLAR is based off the 2012 webcomic Polar: Came From the Cold written and illustrated by Victor Santos. The noir action tale was originally released as a near-silent comic, meaning that there is a minimal amount of dialogue spoken throughout the story's four-volume presentation. Rather than fill the book with words, Santos chose to let his minimalistic yet bombastic art do the talking. The web comic was later collected into a series of hardcover volumes and published by Dark Horse Comics.

Here's the official synopsis for POLAR courtesy of Netflix:

The world’s top assassin, Duncan Vizla, aka The Black Kaiser, is settling into retirement when his former employer marks him as a liability to the firm. Against his will, he finds himself back in the game going head to head with an army of younger, faster, ruthless killers who will stop at nothing to have him silenced.

Jason Rothwell (SILENT NIGHT) will write the screenplay based off of Santos' graphic novels while Constantin Film’s Robert Kulzer (RESIDENT EVIL), Jeremy Bolt (DEATH RACE), and Hartley Gorenstein (ROOM) will produce with Martin Moszkowicz, Mads Mikkelsen, and Dark Horse Entertainment’s Keith Goldberg and Mike Richardson on board to executive produce. Meanwhile, Mikkelsen and Hudgens will be joined by Katheryn Winnick (VIKINGS), and Matt Lucas (DOCTOR WHO, LITTLE BRITAIN) for the gritty survival tale.

Yo, did you see that part where Mikkelsen is controlling that massive gun rig? Or the part where he looks to be covered in blodd, giving Daredevil's hallway fight sequence a run for its money? Sign me up for this one!

POLAR will arrive on Netflix come January 25th.
