Mark Hamill to guest star as an ancient vampire on What We Do in the Shadows

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

I'm a huge fan of WHAT WE DO IN THE SHADOWS. The original film – written, directed, and starring Taika Waititi and Jemaine Clement – took a premise that was already creaky at that point (that of the found footage mockumentary) and through great characterization, a fun screenplay, and clever VFX, made a stone-cold comedy/horror classic.

However, when they announced the show on FX, I – like many others – were quite skeptical. But, turns out? It's actually really funny too – sometimes even moreso than the film! That's thanks to the great cast (including GARTH MARENGHI'S DARKPLACE's Matt Berry), and continued backstage involvement of Waititi and Clement, as well as fun guest stars.

Turns out the next big guest on the show is going to none other than Mark Hamill (THE LAST JEDI), who is also a huge fan of the show. He said of the experience, "not only was [the show] on par with the film, but it added elements that I had never heard before like the addition of the energy vampire. The whole cast is one of the best ensembles in television history. I would've been happy just visiting the set, they certainly didn't need me to come in and mess it up somehow. But I thought I would check out the script and see what they had in mind. I expected the role to be like the next door neighbor or someone who works at the Department of Motor Vehicles. When I read I was going to play a vampire, I just about shot out of my chair. What a great honor!"

Meanwhile, Hamill will be playing

an ancient vampire [and] vengeful enemy from Laszlo's (Matt Berry) past who appears without warning to settle a personal debt. This causes Laszlo to flee his home and go into hiding.

And here he is, in all his blood-sucking glory!

He will appear in the episode "ON THE RUN" which will air on FX May 13th, 2020.

So what do you guys think? Any fans of the show? Either way, sound off below!
