It’s pretty obvious Neil Marshall knows what he’s doing when it comes to genre flicks. Marshall (right) is the man behind great flicks like THE DESCENT and DOG SOLDIERS. Not to mention the upcoming DOOMSDAY, which stars Rhona Mitra (below) and hits theaters this Friday. Well Variety are reporting on what Marshall’s next project will be.
Marshall pitched the idea for SACRILEGE to Rogue Pictures’ Andrew Rona and got it picked up. Why wouldn’t they pick it up? It’s Neil Marshall with a small, gritty horror pic!
This is some great news in my eyes. I’m digging the title, digging the writer/director, and definately digging what little we have plotwise.
According to Variety, SACRILEGE will be set in the Old West and will draw on themes of isolation and paranoia, influencing such flicks like John Carpenter’s THE THING. Marshall had the following to say regarding the film:
“I’ve always got a few irons in the fire, but this has long been an ambition of mine… It is set during the Gold Rush, a time remembered for incidents like the Donner Party. It is meant to be a pitch-black, gritty, period horror movie….. This is ‘Unforgiven’ by way of H.P. Lovecraft, with that grim, gritty setting and a horror element nobody has seen before.”
Marshall will start writing the script immediately. The man is a beast. This is definately one we’ll be keeping our eye on.
