Matrix 4 adds Neil Patrick Harris

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Lana Wachowski is set to write and direct MATRIX 4 with Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss returning as Neo and Trinity. And today we've learned the film has also cast Neil Patrick Harris (GONE GIRL). The role is huge for Harris and will mark his first tentpole at a major studio. Sources close to the film would not confirm Harris’ specific role but Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (CANDYMAN 2020, AQUAMAN) just scored a major role recently as well.

On top of directing this fourth THE MATRIX movie, Lana Wachowski will also pen the sequel's screenplay along with Aleksander Hemon and David Mitchell. Wachowski also produces along with Grant Hill. Warner Bros. Pictures and Village Roadshow Pictures will produce and globally distribute.

The film will begin production at the beginning of 2020.

I can imagine quite a few people out there might not be too excited about the idea of another MATRIX movie. And I would have been one of them. Six months ago. But then a few months back I decided during a bout of insomnia to revisit the films, and I found the first two flicks, THE MATRIX and THE MATRIX RELOADED to be a lot of fun. The third movie THE MATRIX REVOLUTIONS is still pretty damn bad – but at least it had kick-ass action!

For those of you that may have forgotten, the original film was written and directed by The Wachowskis and starred Keanu Reeves, Carrie-Anne Moss, and Laurence Fishburne. You can snag the first three films on Blu-ray HEREHERE, and HERE.
