As most of you know, although Matthew Vaughn did write an X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST script treatment, he decided to direct KINGSMAN: THE SECRET SERVICE instead of a follow-up to his X-MEN: FIRST CLASS. I'm definitely not complaining, since his film adaptation of the Mark Millar comic ended up being awesome, but how different would Vaughn's X-MEN: DOFP have been compared to the movie we got from Bryan Singer?
In an interview with MTV News, Matthew Vaughn revealed his X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST plans included two Wolverines, with a new actor playing a younger version of the character.
I had a whole different idea of how X-Men should go. I thought Days of Future Past should be the next one and be set in the '80s. So, when I wrote the treatment, I then wrote Kingsman and got confused about which film I should direct next. Then I said to Fox, 'Let me do Kingsman now, get somebody else in and we'll do the '70s version, recast Wolverine, and the we do Days of Future Past with the new Wolverine AND Hugh, and make it the biggest spectacle we've ever seen.
I don't know if it would have been "the biggest spectacle we've ever seen," but having two Wolverines in DAYS OF FUTURE PAST would've been pretty damn cool. However, I'm not sure which actor the filmmakers would have gone with to play the character. Wolverine doesn't age as much as the other mutants, so it's not as if they would need an incredibly young actor for the role, but they would still have to find someone who looks like Hugh Jackman, or at least more so than say Michael Fassbender's Magneto compared to the Ian McKellen version.
