Michael Shannon rocks it as Elvis in this first image from Elvis & Nixon

Kevin Spacey is killing it in the political arena as far as Netflix's House of Cards goes, but it looks like he's sticking around to deliver some comedy as President Nixon in ELVIS & NIXON. The plot is pretty absurd and wildly enough, based on a true story. On December 21, 1970 Elvis went to the White House to meet Nixon in hopes that he would be sworn in as a federal agent against the war on drugs and communism. Why? Well, because when you're an insanely famous star, I guess you feel you're entitled to these things! Michael Shannon will be portraying Elvis and now we've got our first look at the two leads in character.

The plot intrigues me, the actors intrigue me and the fact that this is Cary Elwes' (THE PRINCESS BRIDE) only writing credit intrigues me. It's really kind of a bizarre story that seems like it would only happen in real life, and I'm curious if a feature film with this premise can entertain for its entire running time (yes, I'm familiar with the TV flick ELVIS MEETS NIXON). This film also stars Colin Hanks, Johnny Knoxville, Evan Peters and Alex Pettyfer, so at the very least we have a well-rounded cast to carry out this madness.

ELVIS & NIXON will hit theaters sometime in 2015.
