Milla Jovovich wields dual swords in Monster Hunter still!

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

It's not a secret that most videogame movies fail financially and critically. Hopefully that's changing (both DETECTIVE PIKACHU and SONIC were box-office successes and "Fresh" on Rotten Tomatoes), but there's still a long way to go. Luckily for MONSTER HUNTER fans, the director of arguably the best videogame film adaptation – MORTAL KOMBAT – will be helming that game's feature film adaptation. Unluckily, Paul W.S. Anderson also directed most of the RESIDENT EVIL films…so hopefully it's MK Anderson that shows up, and not RE: THE FINAL CHAPTER Anderson.

Here's the official synopsis:

Behind our world, there is another: a world of dangerous and powerful monsters that rule their domain with deadly ferocity. When Lt. Artemis (Milla Jovovich) and her loyal soldiers are transported from our world to the new world, the unflappable lieutenant receives the shock of her life. In her desperate battle for survival against enormous enemies with incredible powers and unstoppable, revolting attacks, Artemis will team up with a mysterious man who has found a way to fight back.

And here's a new still (courtesy of Empire) showing Milla Jovovich's character brandishing the iconic dual swords from the game, which Anderson said, "I experimented with different weapons during the game and was able to kill more monsters with those blades. I thought they’d look really beautiful in an action sequence" You can see it below:

Meanwhile, MONSTER HUNTER – directed by Paul W.S. Anderson (MORTAL KOMBAT) and also starring Tony Jaa and Ron Perlman – is still slated to hit theaters September 4…but we'll keep you updated if there are any changes.

So what do you guys think? Fans of the MONSTER HUNTER videogame? If so, what do you think of the film so far? Either way, sound off below!
