Mr. Entity: The Moffitt Family Haunting TV series in the works at Blumhouse

Blumhouse has acquired the rights to make an unscripted TV series about Mr. Entity and the Moffitt family haunting

The Moffitt family claims they were haunted by a presence known as Mr. Entity several decades ago, and their story went viral when an article about that haunting was published last year. Now that story is set to be told in further detail in the book Mr. Entity: The Moffitt Family Haunting, written by Jessica Moffitt – and Blumhouse has already acquired the rights to turn the story into an unscripted TV series.

The Moffitts were terrorized by the supernatural spirit Mr. Entity from the late 1980s to early 1990s, keeping the affairs under wraps to all those except paranormal experts. Jessica’s book includes first-hand perspective from herself, Deborah Moffitt, and the rest of the family. The manuscript reveals even more details about the haunting and the family’s background that may uncover connections to their experience.

Blumhouse is developing the unscripted series with ITV America’s Good Caper Content. There’s also the possibility that Blumhouse could make a scripted series and/or film about the Moffitt family down the line.

Jessica and Deborah Moffitt provided the following statement: “Blumhouse is renowned for their storytelling in the paranormal horror space, and we couldn’t ask for better partners to tell our family’s story. We’re excited that this first project, the unscripted series with Blumhouse Television and Good Caper, will allow us to share first-hand accounts of the disturbing events that altered the course of our lives.

Chris McCumber, president of Blumhouse Television, added: “The story of Mr. Entity is one of the best examples we’ve seen of truth being stranger than fiction. We’re grateful for the unfettered access that Deborah and Jessica Moffitt have provided us to their stories, and for entrusting us to tell it in rich detail in this first iteration as an unscripted series with our partners at ITV America’s Good Caper Content.”

Good Caper Content Senior Vice President of Development Alison Dammann had this to say: “The Moffitts’ unique family history and inexplicable experiences offer ample room for exploration. With Good Caper’s background and approach to investigative storytelling, paired with the incomparable team at Blumhouse Television, we feel well-equipped to unravel the complexities of this bizarre and breathtaking story.

Deborah Moffitt also wrote a book about the haunting, called Unwelcomed: The True Story of the Moffitt Family Haunting. Published in 2015, that book had the following description: For over six years the Moffitt family was terrorized by a demon from the past. Claiming that Lee Moffitt was promised to him as a sacrifice hundreds of years ago, the entity had come to collect her. There were no safe havens. There was no where to run. The Moffitt family had only one option: survive. With over 100 photographs taken during this time, Unwelcomed provides a factual account and pictorial study of the Moffitt family’s true paranormal experiences. Another book on the subject, A Deadly Haunting, was written by Joie Albrecht, “based a True Story told by Deborah Moffitt”. That was published in 2014.

Blumhouse is one of the biggest names in the horror genre these days. Recent releases include Halloween Ends, M3GAN, Sick, There’s Something Wrong with the Children, and Unseen. Later this year they’ll be releasing Insidious 5, They Listen, and a sequel to The Exorcist.
