There was a good amount of buzz and a lot of advertising for Gareth Edwards’ MONSTERS prior to its release last month, but it seemed that people forgot about it as soon as it was released. Those who missed out will soon have the opportunity to catch it on video.
Magnolia Home Entertainment will release the film on DVD, two-disc DVD, and Blu-ray on February 1st. The cover art can be seen to the right. It’s unclear about what supplements will be on the single DVD, but special features on the two-disc DVD and Blu-ray will include:
– Production on Set featurette
– Editing featurette
– Visual Effects featurette
– Deleted and extended scenes
– Interviews
– HDNet: A Look at Monsters
– Comic Con NYC with Gareth Edwards
– Factory Farmed” short film with intro from Gareth Edwards
– Digital copy of the film
The movie stars Scoot McNairy and Whitney Able (below). Its vast advertising campaign made the movie appear as a sci-fi/action flick when it is, in fact, more of a dramatic film. Here’s the plot:
Six years ago NASA discovered the possibility of alien life within our solar system. A probe was launched to collect samples, but crashed upon re-entry over Central America. Soon after, new life form began to appear and half of Mexico was quarantined as an INFECTED ZONE. Today, the American and Mexican military still struggle to contain “the creatures”…… Our story begins when a US journalist agrees to escort a shaken tourist through the infected zone in Mexico to the safety of the US border.
