Mortal Kombat annihilates box-office!

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Look, all the "Mortal Kombat Fatalities Box-Office" or "Mortal Kombat Does a Flawless Victory to Box-Office", etc. were taken, but nonetheless here we are, with Mortal Kombat indeed winning the box-office weekend with a $22 million domestic take, and $50 million worldwide take on a reported $55 million budget. Which is made even more impressive when considering the pandemic, its availability on HBO Max, and surprisingly stiff competition from the Demon Slayer: Mugen Train anime film, which became the highest weekend box-office for a foreign language film ever, at just under $20 million.

This is good news to anyone craving a sequel to the film (and not so good news for people like me who hated the film), but if a new film were to come out, hopefully they can fix some of the many issues with the film (less Cole, better/more fighting), and emphasize the things it did right (the gore, casting).

Anyway, here's the official synopsis:

A washed-up mixed martial arts fighter named Cole Young is unaware of his hidden lineage or why he is being hunted down by Sub-Zero of the Lin-Kuei clan of assassins. Concerned for the safety of his family, he seeks out a clique of fighters that were chosen to defend Earthrealm in a high-stakes battle against the forces of Outworld in a inter-dimensional fighting tournament that occurs once in a generation. Appearances to be made by Shang Tsung, Goro, Jax Briggs, Sonya Blade, Kano, Scorpion and more fan favorites!

But what did you guys think? Fans of the movie? If so, looking forward to a sequel? Either way, sound off below!
