Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. current season finale being penned as series closure

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

It brings me no pleasure to be the bearer of bad news for fans of Marvel's AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D., but it looks as if  those in charge of the show will be treating the program's current season finale as a potential series ending.

Although the news doesn't come as a shock, especially when you consider that, back in January, Channing Dungey, the head of ABC Entertainment Group, revealed that the show's future remained uncertain at that time. Now, while the show has yet to be cancelled, officially speaking, there has been no word of it being renewed either. Now, with the writers switching gears and preparing for the show's potential series finale, the likelihood of a sixth season being announced seems … well, not likely.

Recently while speaking with TV Line, AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. co-showrunner, Jed Whedon, confessed to the outlet that “Yeah, we’re ready for if this is the end," to which co-showrunner Maurisa Tancharoen then added, "We’re definitely going to make it rewarding either way." With that being said, true believers can rest assured that AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. has every intention of going out on a high note, regardless of its undecided fate.

For now, the show will return on March 2 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on ABC and will run until either the season, or the series, comes to an end.
