Over the years, we've seen plenty of actors, directors, and writers flock to Netflix; and with the large budgets and creative freedom they offer, who can blame them? Anthony Mackie already has several Netflix projects under his belt, and THR has now reported that he's slated to star in and produce a new action thriller for the service.

The outlet states that Anthony Mackie is set to take the lead in THE OGUN as Xavier Rhodes, a man who "brings his teenage daughter to Nigeria to find a cure for the rare genetic condition that he passed on to her. When his daughter is kidnapped, Rhodes goes on a rampage through the criminal underworld to find her before it's too late, testing his powerful abilities to the limit." The project has been described as something of a cross between John Wick and Dante's Inferno, which definitely sounds intriguing. Netflix has certainly been unleashing a number of hard-hitting action flicks recently, including Chris Hemsworth's EXTRACTION, which become one of their most popular movies ever. In addition to starring in THE OGUN, Mackie will also be producing the project alongside Jason Michael Berman. Former stuntman Madison Turner has penned the script, but no director is attached yet.

As far as Anthony Mackie's other Netflix projects go, the actor previously starred in sci-fi thriller IO alongside Margaret Qualley, as well as the second season of Altered Carbon and an episode of Black Mirror. He also has several Netflix-bound projects just over the horizon, including Joe Wright's THE WOMAN IN THE WINDOW as well as Mikael Hafstrom's OUTSIDE THE WIRE, a sci-fi action flick in which he plays a drone pilot sent into a deadly militarized zone where he finds himself working for an android officer tasked to locate a doomsday device before it falls into the hands of insurgents. Mackie also recently wrapped shooting The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Marvel's Disney+ series in which he reprises his role of Sam Wilson opposite Sebastian Stan's Bucky Barnes. The six-episode series will debut on Disney+ next year.
