Best Movie & TV Trailers of the Week – Rocketman, Dragged Across Concrete

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Saddle up, it's time for the best movie & TV trailers of the week!

First up we have movie trailers, which features another very by-the-book biopic, ths time revolving around the ROCKETMAN himself, Elton John. Starring Taron Egerton (KINGSMAN: THE SECRET SERVICE) as the singer himself, I'd say at the very least this musician's tale looks a heck of a lot better than the travesty that is BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY. At least they're a little daring with the visuals, even if it is clearly pretty corny and predictable. Montages abound.

S. Craig Zahler is back with a brand new movie, and this one seems to be pretty in line with his previous projects BONE TOMAHAWK and BRAWL IN CELL BLOCK 99. In other words, it's going to be extremely right-wing, extremely violent, and it will most likely provide Vince Vaughn a chance to show off his acting chops after he's been pegged as a comedy star for so long. Although these types of features typically aren't my bag, I have to say I have a sweet spot for Zahler's work, a man after my own little western loving heart. The trailer doesn't reveal much, but as anyone who has seen any of the Cinestate darling's previous films knows, all of the good stuff is going to be saved for the feature itself — and is probably too graphic for previews.

A very touching little TV spot for the upcoming CAPTAIN MARVEL movie features some beloved MCU favorites, like Iron Man, Captain America, and Thor, before inviting audiences to come and see what makes a hero. Not gonna lie, I'm getting pretty giddy about March 8th. There's also a new TV spot for GODZILLA: KING OF THE MONSTERS which makes me fearful to ever go hiking again, and shows the mighty Godzilla duking it out with Mothra, Rodan, and the three-headed King Ghidorah.

There's also new trailers for FIGHTING WITH MY FAMILY, NEVER GROW OLD, MAKING BABIES, LOVE SHOT, ANGRY BIRDS 2, THE KID, HER SMELL, THE HIGHWAYMAN, SUICIDE TRIP, THE DIRT, THE SECRET LIFE OF PETS 2, and more!

Next up we have TV trailers! This week shows us Bill Hader unraveling in the season two trailer for HBO's BARRY, a tough to watch look at LEAVING NEVERLAND, the final season of VEEP, a peek at the second season of CLOAK AND DAGGER, and a look at Hulu's latest INTO THE DARK installment, titled TREEHOUSE. There's also new trailers for THE MAN IN THE HIGH CASTLE, GREEN EGGS AND HAM, AFTER LIFE, THE CASE AGAINST ADNAN SYED, PEARSON, LOSERS, FORMULA 1: DRIVE TO SURVIVE, and ALTERED CARBON season 2.

There were some great contenders this week but there can only be one winner, and so, the award for best trailer of the week goes to HELL SMELL. Starring Elisabeth Moss (THE HANDMAID'S TALE, MAD MEN) as the self-destructive punk rocker Becky, the film follows the typical story of a drugged-out artist who struggles with sobriety while in the midst of stardom. The key difference? Moss throwing herself into the fray with wild abandon, showing off her range, and enticing the likes of this writer, and clearly, everyone at TIFF as well. Count me in. HER SMELL arrives in theaters on April 12th, 2019.
