It was announced earlier this year that Ta-Nehisi Coates would be penning a new Superman movie that would be produced by J.J. Abrams. "To be invited into the DC Extended Universe by Warner Bros., DC Films and Bad Robot is an honor," said Coates. "I look forward to meaningfully adding to the legacy of America's most iconic mythic hero." Abrams added, "There is a new, powerful, and moving Superman story yet to be told. We couldn’t be more thrilled to be working with the brilliant Mr. Coates to help bring that story to the big screen, and we’re beyond thankful to the team at Warner Bros. for the opportunity." It was later revealed that Warner Bros. and DC were also committed to hiring a Black actor to play the Man of Steel as well as signing a Black director to helm the movie, and it's a move that Zack Snyder thinks it long overdue.

While speaking with the Radio Times, Zack Snyder commented on the new Superman movie and Warner Bros.' choice to cast a Black actor in the role.

My feeling is that I love JJ [Abrams], I love what he’s done in the past. I’m interested to see what happens, it’s a bold and cool and probably long overdue move. But I love Henry [Cavill] as Superman, of course I do. He’s my Superman.

With Zack Snyder's Justice League now behind him, Snyder doesn't really have much to do with Warner Bros. — he even recently called the studio "aggressively anti-Snyder" — but he's still interested in the stories of these iconic characters. "I'm not really involved in any of the decision-making at Warner Brothers in any way," Snyder said, "so I guess for me it’s just wait and see what they do with this and how it manifests itself. But on the surface, it seems interesting." Although no director or leading actor are attached to the project yet, I'm still very curious to see how this new take on the Man of Steel is handled. Zack Snyder's next project is Army of the Dead, which will be hitting Netflix on May 14th. You can check out a review of the film from our own Chris Bumbray right here.
