Brian De Palma’s Passion moves forward with Noomi Rapace and possibly Rachel McAdams

For a while there, it seemed like director Brian De Palma would be bringing his special brand of filmmaking to a project called THE KEY MAN, a paranoia thriller in the vein of THREE DAYS OF THE CONDOR and MARATHON MAN. That film was supposed to begin production at the end of this year, but a new report from Thompson on Hollywood tells us that THE KEY MAN has taken a backseat and that De Palma will instead move forward on a film he’s had in development for a year called PASSION with Noomi Rapace and possibly her SHERLOCK HOLMES: A GAME OF SHADOWS co-star Rachel McAdams.

As reported back in January, PASSION is a remake of the French erotic thriller CRIME D’AMOUR starring Kristin Scott Thomas and Ludivine Sagnier. De Palma had this to say about the film: “Not since ‘Dressed to Kill’ have I had a chance to combine eroticism, suspense, mystery and murder into one spellbinding cinematic experience.” Rapace and McAdams would presumably take over the roles previously played by Thomas and Sagnier. No story details are available at this time, but knowing that De Palma will be once again be returning to a genre he’s not only excelled at, but simply had so much damn fun with, is really exciting.

PASSION, said to be budgeted now at $20 million, will begin production on March 5th in Berlin.
