Legendary's MonsterVerse franchise kicked off with Gareth Edwards' GODZILLA back in 2014 and KONG: SKULL ISLAND re-introduced us to King Kong last year, paving the road for the two famous monsters to go head-to-head in GODZILLA VS. KONG. In addition to King Kong and Godzilla, Variety has reported that Brian Tyree Henry (Atlanta) has joined the cast of the film as well.

It's not known who Brian Tyree Henry will be playing in the film, but Variety says that it will be a "significant role." Millie Bobby Brown (Stranger Things), Zhang Ziyi (CROUCHING TIGER, HIDDEN DRAGON), and Kyle Chandler (FIRST MAN) are also set to star in the film, reprising their roles from GODZILLA: KING OF THE MONSTERS, with Julian Dennison (DEADPOOL 2) also set to appear. GODZILLA VS. KONG will be directed by Adam Wingard (YOU'RE NEXT). In addition to Atlanta, Brian Tyree Henry has plenty on his upcoming slate, including WIDOWS on November 16, 2018, IF BEALE STREET COULD TALK on November 30, 2018, SPIDER-MAN: INTO THE SPIDER-VERSE on December 14, 2018, THE WOMAN IN THE WINDOW on October 4, 2019, and SUPER INTELLIGENCE on December 25, 2019. The actor is also playing a lead role in the upcoming CHILD'S PLAY reboot. Busy dude.

Before the big showdown in GODZILLA VS. KONG, our next adventure in the land of giant critters will be GODZILLA: KING OF THE MONSTERS, which will find Godzilla facing off against Mothra, Rodan, and his ultimate nemesis, the three-headed King Ghidorah.

The official synopsis for GODZILLA: KING OF THE MONSTERS:

The new story follows the heroic efforts of the crypto-zoological agency Monarch as its members face off against a battery of god-sized monsters, including the mighty Godzilla, who collides with Mothra, Rodan, and his ultimate nemesis, the three-headed King Ghidorah. When these ancient super-species—thought to be mere myths—rise again, they all vie for supremacy, leaving humanity’s very existence hanging in the balance.

GODZILLA: KING OF THE MONSTERS will hit theaters on May 31, 2019, with GODZILLA VS. KONG following on May 22, 2020.
