Bryan Singer is expecting almost all of the original X-Men to return for Days of Future Past

So, it looks like Bryan Singer becoming director of X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST is going to reap some rewards for fans of the original films. The Hollywood Reporter claims that actors like Ian McKellan, Hugh Jackman, Patrick Stewart, and more are willing to take less money and screen time to make the project work because Singer is behind the camera.

As fans of the comic know, DAYS OF FUTURE PAST follows some of the X-Men into a dystopian future ruled by Sentinels where mutants are hunted and killed. Because of this time travel element, Fox has the perfect opportunity to straddle two film franchises and combine them into one.

Word has it that the original film stars will primarily appear in the future scenes while the 1960s cast featuring Jennifer Lawrence, James McAvoy, and Michael Fassbender will remain in their timeline. The extent of the two casts interacting outside of Wolverine remains to be seen.

This means that we have at least a small chance of seeing James Marsden as Cyclops and Halle Berry as Storm. While I would be fine with not seeing Jubilee or Gambit, I would have no issue with them showing up as well. The more the series can become a cohesive franchise, the better it will be for fans.
