Cate Blanchett in talks for Eli Roth's The House With a Clock in Its Walls

Cate Blanchett The House With a Clock in Its Walls Jack Black Eli Roth

Cate Blanchett appearing in an Eli Roth film alongside Jack Black? Colour me intrigued. According to Variety, the THOR: RAGNAROK actress is currently in negotiations to join the cast of THE HOUSE WITH A CLOCK IN ITS WALLS, Amblin Entertainment's upcoming adaptation of the 1973 gothic horror novel of the same name written by John Bellairs with illustrations by Edward Gorey.

The family-friendly project tells the tale of a recently orphaned 10-year-old boy named Lewis Barnavelt who discovers a world of hidden passageways, magic, and danger in his uncle’s old house. The uncle, to be played by Jack Black, turns out to be a mediocre, but well-intentioned, witch. Should Cate Blanchett sign on, she would play Mrs. Zimmermann, the uncle's neighbor and best friend who also happens to be a witch, albeit a more powerful one. Lewis soon tries out magic for himself and unintentionally resurrects the former owner of the house, a women named Serenna Izard, who, together with her husband, had built a clock which has the ability to obliterate humanity and hidden it somewhere in the house. Ruh oh. The project is still in the early stages, but Supernatural creator Eric Kripke will be penning the script. THE HOUSE WITH A CLOCK IN ITS WALL certainly sounds like it could be fun, as well as offer an interesting change of pace for Eli Roth.

Cate Blanchett will next be seen as Hela, the Goddess of Death, in THOR: RAGNAROK on November 3, 2017, while Jack Black will star alongside Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, and Karen Gillan in JUMANJI: WELCOME TO THE JUNGLE on December 20, 2017. As for Eli Roth, his next film is on the horizon as well, a remake of DEATH WISH starring Bruce Willis which will hit theaters on November 22, 2017.
