Hulu’s Palm Springs trailer traps Samberg & Milioti in a bizarre time loop

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

What would you do if suddenly you became trapped in a seemingly-endless time loop? Would you abandon all hope for a better tomorrow, or would you make the most of your time by steadily crafting the best day of your life? These are just a few of the philosophical questions that Nyles (Andy Samberg) and Sarah (Cristin Milioti) will be forced to ask themselves while being trapped in paradise for Hulu's PALM SPRINGS.

Here's the official synopsis for the upcoming Hulu comedy:

When carefree Nyles and reluctant maid of honor Sarah have a chance encounter at a Palm Springs wedding, things get complicated as they are unable to escape the venue, themselves, or each other.

Directing PALM SPRINGS is Max Barbakow, who made Sundance history this year when Hulu and Neon coughed up $17.5 million for the GROUNDHOG DAY-like comedy, making it the biggest sale in the festival's history. In addition to helming the film, Barbakow also created the story with Andy Siara, who then wrote the film based on the duo's peculiar premise. Joining Samberg and Milioti for PALM SPRINGS are J.K. Simmons, Peter Gallagher, Meredith Hagner, Camila Mendes, Tyler Hoechlin and Chris Pang, among several others.

After watching the trailer, I can see why Hulu and Neon were willing to plunk down so much scratch on PALM SPRINGS. Not only is Samberg a hot ticket thanks to his Lonely Island and BROOKLYN NINE-NINE fame, but this film appears to have "good time" written all over it. Furthermore, films that involve time loops have a tendency to pose a series of larger questions to audiences about the concept of time, as well as what we'd do if the world clock was no longer a factor. Couple that with a generous helping of laughs and you've got a recipe for success.

Be sure to check out PALM SPRINGS when it arrives on Hulu (as well as a select few drive-in theaters) on July 10.
