I wouldn’t call this a confirmation, but rather overwhelming evidence. During an interview promoting her new indie pic BREATHE IN, actress Felicity Jones was blindsided with a pointed question about her role in THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2, which basically asked her how she felt about “finally” getting to play The Black Cat/aka Felicia Hardy. Jones stumbled her way through an answer she was obviously not prepared to give, leaving little doubt that she is donning the leather to portray the famed character.
Besides one other actor, B.J. Novak, Jones’ part is the only other one not specified thus far. Whether she’s playing The Black Cat or someone else, it’s obvious that it’s something more than a bystander. Personally, I always saw Black Cat as Marvel’s Catwoman (the similarities are rather uncanny), but apparently she was created (edit: as cat-suited burglar) almost a decade before DC’s cat-burglar donned the similar uniform. In terms of popularity, however, Catwoman has the edge. Perhaps the Spidey sequel can turn that around, although I don’t know how they’re going to fit her in with the likes of Electro, The Rhino, Green Goblin, Vulture, Mary-Jane, and Harry Osborn. Talk about a stacked movie.
