After silencing naysayers by webbing up $855 million at the worldwide box office with Tom Hardy's VENOM, Sony is without a doubt ready and willing to sink its teeth into the wallets of comic book fans once more, with the upcoming release of MORBIUS starring Jared Leto as the vampiric antihero.

Today, Leto has revealed via Twitter that cameras have been rolling on the alternate Spider-Man universe project for a week. What's more is that the Thirty Seconds to Mars frontman has also shared an offical behind-the-scenes glimpse at his character, biochemist Michael Morbius, who in an attempt to cure himself of a rare blood disease, inadvertently infected himself with a form of vampirism instead.

In the photo, Leto's Morbius is strategically positioned behind a clapper, so as to obscure his milky-eyed, unwashed look. This is our first peek at Leto as the character, who is set to star beside Adria Arjona (PACIFIC RIM: UPRISING, TRUE DETECTIVE), Matt Smith (GOOD OMENS, DOCTOR WHO) and Jared Harris (THE BOXTROLLS, THE CURIOUS CASE OF BENJAMIN BUTTON) in the upcoming film being helmed by LIFE and SAFE HOUSE director Daniel Espinosa.

According to the Marvel Database, Morbius is afflicted with a “debilitating blood disease and developed an experimental treatment involving vampire bats and electroshocks. Its side effects turned him into a pseudo-vampire who needed to consume blood in order to survive, and gained typical vampire characteristics such as an aversion to sunlight, and the powers of flight, enhanced strength, speed, and healing (a healing factor). His overall appearance changed as well: he gained fangs, his nose flattened to appear more bat-like, and his skin became extremely pale. Additionally, the victims of his bite would turn into living vampires themselves.”

Although it's obscured, what do you think of Leto's look for Michael Morbius? Are you anxious to see what the film has to offer after VENOM turned out okay? Are you still confused as to how Sony is going to pull off building a Spider-Man-less Spider-Verse? Do you suspect that Hardy's Venom will make a cameo in MORBIUS?
