Kevin Sorbo’s upcoming movie is giving away an assault rifle as a promotion

So Kevin Sorbo is at it again, starring in yet another Christ-sploitation flick. But unlike GOD'S NOT DEAD, or his recent directorial debut LET THERE BE LIGHT, this new one is a "faith-based action film" called THE RELIANT. And while it indeed looks just as cheap, cloying, and incompetent as his other recent films, there's something more controversial about this film, and it has to do with its marketing.

See, it seems that there's a promotion for the film (which is a self-described "pro-second amendment" action film, as if these people think most action films somehow aren't), and the production is giving away a goddamn assault rifle as a prize! Now, I'm not going to get political here, but this seems at the very least irresponsible. It'd be like if STAR WARS were to give working lightsabers away as a prize! Sure, it could be used to protect you and your family, but it's also not something you want any random person entering a contest to easily get a hold of.

Anyway, here's the official synopsis for this otherwise generic sounding movie:

When the dollar collapses, widespread rioting and looting occurs, and five children tragically lose their parents in the chaos. Armed with a couple of their Dad’s weapons, they struggle to survive in a stretch of woods on the outskirts of their burning town. Facing starvation and threats from encroaching gangs, they begin to doubt God’s love. Upon whom will they be reliant?

Meanwhile, THE RELIANT is supposedly going to hit theaters later this year.
