Lamb trailer: Mother nature is turned on its head in A24’s folktale thriller

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

A24 has released the official trailer for their supernatural drama film, Lamb, and it looks like the film's offbeat premise wants to turn mother nature on its head.

Pert the film's official synopsis, "A childless couple in rural Iceland make an alarming discovery one day in their sheep barn. They soon face the consequences of defying the will of nature, in this dark and atmospheric folktale, the striking debut feature from director Valdimar Jóhannsson." The film stars Noomi Rapace, Hilmir Snaer Gudnason, Björn Hlynur Haraldsson, and Ingvar Sigurðsson.

Reviews that came out of the Cannes Film Festival suggest that the concept for Lamb is so out there that it shouldn't be spoiled ahead of anyone that chooses to see it. It sounds like this is a film that is right up A24's alley, in the same arena as Hereditary, Midsommar, and The Witch. I read a more detailed breakdown of the film's premise in a review ahead of writing this story and I can say it sounds very out there and, while the review didn't give away anything beyond that, it sounds like a film that will reward you for playing the waiting game as the movie begins to explain itself.

Jóhannsson co-wrote the film with Sjón and A24 acquired the North American distribution rights to the movie just this month. The film premiered as part of the official selection at the 2021 Cannes Film Festival in the Un Certain Regard section and it will see its theatrical release on October 8, 2021.
