Mark Hamill asks fans to relax about Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Mark Hamill understands your pain. We are still over 300 days away from seeing STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS and already we are losing our collective minds with each image, teaser, and rumor. Hell, just yesterday we all entertained the insane possibility of STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS opening this Summer instead of this Christmas.

Despite our incredibly high expectations, Luke Skywalker himself wants us to take a deep breath and collectively chill the F*ck out. Here is what Hamill told Hero Complex.

“I wish people would just relax. We’re not trying to play games with people. We just want to maximize their experience at the movies where it should be seen and not have it leaked over the Internet. Believe me, it will be here before you know it. Forget about it, that’s my advice. Look forward to all the summer movies. I’m telling you, it’s just a movie. These people that build it up in their minds like it’s going to be the second coming of, I don’t know what — they’re bound to be disappointed.”

While I acknowledge that STAR WARS is not just a movie for the majority of fans of the franchise, Hamill is correct in the need for all of us to take a step back and not ruin this for everyone else. There is a whole generation of fans for whom STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS will be their first time seeing a new STAR WARS movie on the big screen. For that, we owe it to them to enjoy this experience the way some of us did when THE PHANTOM MENACE debuted and for others when the first movie opened in 1977.

STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS opens in theaters on December 18, 2015.
