Marvel Studios to have 10-year anniversary IMAX film fest at select theaters

Marvel fans looking to catch some (or all) of their favorite MCU films on the big screen again can rejoice! Starting next month, the studio is partnering with IMAX ro re-release all 20 films from their library in a 10th Anniversary Film Festival in select theaters. All of the films will be presented in the IMAX format, including those that didn't get that presentation initially (IRON MAN, THE INCREDIBLE HULK and CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER). The film festival will take place in select theaters across the U.S. and Canada starting on Thursday, August 30, 2018 and will commence on Thursday, September 6, 2018.

From the press release:

The Marvel Studios 10th Anniversary Film Festival kicks off on August 30. Amongst the 20 films, it will feature three that have never before been presented in The IMAX® Experience including “Iron Man,” “The Incredible Hulk,” and “Captain America: The First Avenger.” In the first five days of the marathon, all 20 films will be shown in their release order, followed by two theme days focusing on “Origins” and “Team Ups,” concluding on the morning of September 6 with two films that will be chosen especially by fans – head to @IMAX on Twitter to cast your vote!

“We knew we wanted to go big to celebrate 10 years of Marvel Studios, and you can’t get any bigger than IMAX,” said Kevin Feige, Producer and President of Marvel Studios. “This is an incredible celebration for fans. They will be able to see all of Marvel Studios’ films back-to-back and really be immersed in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.”

Pretty cool, I think. I'm sure the ol' "cash grab" term will be tossed around on this, but whatever. You don't have to go nor do you have to see all of them. Personally, I'd love to re-experience a few of my favorites, including THE AVENGERS, CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER (still my favorite of all the MCU films) and maybe IRON MAN. I dig re-releases, not just of superhero flicks, but of any and all old-school favorites. Seeing old favorites on the big screen can be a really rewarding experience and offer a whole new perspective on the film in question (even if it makes you like it less) and often reignites the passion you had for it the first time. I see these things as win-win.
