Netflix to offer more Sex Education with Season 2 renewal

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Netflix has announced today that their cringe-worthy (in a good way) comedy series SEX EDUCATION is getting a sophomore season. As per the order, the second season is slated to begin production on eight brand-new episodes this spring in the UK. Meanwhile, Gillian Anderson, Asa Butterfield, Emma Mackey, Ncuti Gatwa, Aimee-Lou Wood, Connor Swindells, Kedar Williams-Stirling, Tanya Reynolds, Patricia Allison and Alistair Petrie are set to reprise their roles.

Following the show's January debut, SEX EDUCATION has been lauded for delivering a coming-of-age story with a fresh, feminist heart, and for presenting inter-sectional and multidimensional characters that audiences have fallen in love with. In fact, some have gone so far as to say that the show is in-part responsible for there being more poignant cultural conversations around sexuality, relationships and identity at the start of this year.

When asked for comment about the show being scheduled for another semester, series creator Laurie Nunn said, “The reception to season one has been so exciting. Seeing how people across the world have connected to characters that began as ideas in my head is incredible. I’m hugely grateful to every person that has taken the time to watch the series, and I can’t wait to continue this amazing journey.”

“Laurie Nunn has captured the awkward teenage experience with a lot of heart and humor in Sex Education,” said Cindy Holland, Vice President of Original Content, Netflix. “Along with the Eleven team and executive producer and director Ben Taylor, she’s created a universally relatable series that has resonated with our members around the world.”

With an estimated view-rate of over 40 million within the first 4 weeks of its release, you don't need to be a genius to see why Netflix is excited to welcome SEX EDUCATION back for another lesson. Be sure to have your most intimate and awkward questions ready, for when the show makes its triumphant return.
