New El Camino featurette explores getting closure for Jesse Pinkman

The final episode of the series BREAKING BAD was all about the main character, Walter White (Bryan Cranston), finding some closure as he set a few things right for the people in his life – including Jesse Pinkman (Aaron Paul). While Paul’s Pinkman had a special final moment of his own, what he did after has been left an open book, that is until we get to see where he ended up in the upcoming Netflix movie, EL CAMINO: A BREAKING BAD MOVIE. The movie drops tomorrow and before you jump in a new featurette finds the cast and crew talking about coming back for more BAD, and what it means to find some closure for Jesse.

“I think the story of this film is about the struggle to survive,” Paul says. “It follows a man on the run who will truly stop at nothing to finally become free.”

The featurette shows some behind the scenes footage from the making of the movie, with Charles Baker (Skinny Pete), Matt Jones (Badger), and series creator/director Vince Gilligan talking about returning to the world of BAD after all these years. “It’s like going back to your high school reunion…if your high school sold meth,” says Jones.

“This is very much a BREAKING BAD movie,” Gilligan says. “It feels a bit like old home week, it feels a bit like deja vu, and yet it also feels like something fresh and new. Aaron getting to star in his own movie, the Jesse Pinkman story post-BREAKING BAD; I’ve been looking forward to doing this for years.

Gilligan means it when he said he's been wanting to do tackle this story for years, saying in a past interview that he's had this idea even before the conclusion of the main series. In that same interview, he said the show will hit the ground running after the events of the finale, not slowing things down for the sake of new viewers. 

The movie won't act as quite the homecoming for fans as it is the cast here, as viewers have been getting their dose of the BREAKING BAD world with the ongoing series BETTER CALL SAUL. But seeing things be picked up right after the end of BAD should be its own bit of nostalgia, getting to see these characters back on screen again, and in a way that feels like BAD on a larger scale. 

EL CAMINO is on Netflix and in select cities on October 11.
