Like last year, 2019 is set to be a big year for Marvel at the movies, and though fans are spending a lot of time thinking about the upcoming CAPTAIN MARVEL and AVENGERS: ENDGAME there’s still a lot of love being spread to everyone’s friendly neighborhood Spider-Man. Last week saw the debut of the first trailer for SPIDER-MAN: FAR FROM HOME, which showed off Peter Parker (Tom Holland) meeting Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) for the first time. Of course, that visual alone is going to make people flock to YouTube, and flock they did, as the 24-hour view count for FAR FROM HOME is a studio record for Sony’s Columbia Pictures.

As reported by Deadline, the 24-hour view count for the movie topped at about 130 million views, topping SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING (116 million) as the best one-day viewing period ever for a Sony movie. This is no surprise, as another Sony Spider-Man movie – SPIDER-MAN: INTO THE SPIDER-VERSE – is currently making waves at the box office and social media, all on top of raking in the awards. Couple that with an AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR finale that left audiences crying in the aisles and you have, possibly, the most hotly anticipated SPIDER-MAN movie ever.
In terms of the rankings as a whole, FAR FROM HOME ranks eighth overall, coming in ahead of BEAUTY AND THE BEAST (127 million) but behind THOR: RAGNAROK (136 million). Though trailer views aren’t linked with box office totals, it’s worth pointing out that the first INFINITY WAR trailer was the most-viewed trailer ever in 24 hours upon its release (230 million, recently bested by ENDGAME with 289 million), and that movie went on to have the biggest opening weekend of all time. HOMECOMING had its stellar view total and made $117 million opening weekend – which ain’t too shabby — so we can make the assumption things will look very good for Spidey come summer.
SPIDER-MAN: FAR FROM HOME hits theaters July 5.
